"Pretty Shrewd" - English theatre

Clive Duncan's Pretty Shrewd,  a modern-day adaptation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, is about four young people and their ambitions. Pete and his best friend Luke are two amateur musicians who take part in a folk competition. At the same time Pete's sister Bianca is having a secret relationship with Luke. When Pete finds out he wants them to split up.

This is the point where Kate, Bianca's best friend, realises Pete has to be taught a lesson. In Duncan's version of Shakespeare's play, it is the woman who tames the man. Kate does so by making him fall for her and then by breaking his heart.

On Tuesday, 25th February 2014, almost all students of the 6th, 7th and 8th forms went to see a production of the play. The four young actors -- Joseph Tweedale, Eloise Kay, David Simmons and Catriona MacKenzie -- were amazing. Apart from their brilliant acting skills, each of them turmed out to be an exceptional musician with an outstanding singing voice.

We all enjoyed this show. It was well worth seeing.
